This employee is responsible for the oversight and coordination of the delivery of all medical services. This includes the delivery, or oversight of the delivery of all nursing care to promote the physical health of clients being treated. This includes consultation with units that do not provide direct nursing or medical services. Works with medical director in developing and insures for the consistent application of established protocols for the delivery of medical and nursing care by assigned staff. These include, but are not limited to: client screening and admissions interviews, the preliminary assessment of treatment needs and the development of plans to meet those needs, utilization and continued care review, the delivery of identified nursing care needs to include emergency procedures when called for, the collection of specimens and the coordination of physician requested laboratory tests, the control and dispensing of prescribed medications to include pharmacy liaison, the appropriate implementation of standing medical orders, participation in client care management and treatment planning meetings, counseling and educating clients in relation to health related topics in individual and group settings, the monitoring and control of medical equipment and the medical unit.
